You’ve played the game already, about 10,000 times. Bejeweled is probably the easiest mainstream casual game to get in to and Bejeweled Blitz, it’s Facebook-integrated cousin, is even easier to get in to. With every game lasting only a minute and a leaderboard composed of your friend’s high scores the game seems minimalist at best, but the new PC-download version looks to make the experience shine.
We gave you 10 years worth of gems and you gave us all sorts of bizarre and crazy answers on how to better the world. Some of you are clearly creative folk, the rest are plain mad geniuses. I both fear and long for a future with you in control.
Thanks so much to everyone for entering and for PopCap Games for sponsoring our little contest, but alas it’s come to a close. Congratulations to Michael, Spencer and Justin you are our randomly selected winners! Keep an eye on your inbox for your copy of Bejeweled 2 and Bejeweled Twist soon! Better luck next time to the rest, but keep posted and we’ll have plenty more contests soon.
For 10 years Bejeweled has disrupted the workplace, and it’s time we did something about it. For too long have we let the colourful gems of PopCap’s puzzle classic lay dormant on our PCs, handhelds and consoles, just waiting to sap us of our productivity. With this week marking the 10th anniversary of the original casual game a quest is set forth before you; we must turn the sparkling stones of Bejeweled in to productivity increasers!
There are a few genre blending games that come along and make the gaming populace collectively slap their foreheads in a ubiquitous moment of “Why did this take so long to happen?!”. The invention of the puzzle/RPG mash-up is definitely one of those moments. Now, Square-Enix thinks they can perfect the hybrid genre with Gyromancer by blending their storied history of RPG magic with the puzzling fun of PopCap Games’ Bejeweled Twist.
It would have been easy for PopCap Games to simply release more of the same when designing a sequel to the casual gaming staple, Zuma. It’s hard to believe that Zuma’s Revenge is only the second Zuma game since the original’s debut six years ago despite it being one of the most successful casual video games of all time. With six years PopCap has had plenty of time to adapt and improve on the mechanics players first fell in love with.
