Like a dagger in the night Ezio returns for one last parting shot in the final Assassin’s Creed II DLC. Bonfire of the Vanities picks up where The Battle of Froli left off and shows players a version of Firenze (Ezio’s home town) corrupted under the influence of the Piece of Eden. With Savanarola controlling every aspect of the city’s function it’s up to Ezio and his knives to reclaim the apple and restore sanity.
Assassin’s Creed II closed with a lot left to answer and while we may have to wait until the inevitable sequel to find out what’s really going on Ubisoft has released the first of two planned downloadable expansions for the game. The Battle of Forli takes players to the famed city to play a behind-the-scenes role of the actual historical battle that took place in the late 1400’s and continues Ezio’s journey.
The cultural movement known as the Renaissance is not only the hub from which all modern philosophical and scientific theory begin, but it’s also the backdrop for Ubisoft’s sequel to 2007’s cloak and dagger hit Assassin’s Creed. Though the period shift plays an important role in Assassin’s Creed II it’s not the only change the series has undergone; Ubisoft has listened to 2 years of critical reaction and overhauled their interface for a much improved experience making this sequel not only progressive narratively, but evolutionary in the genre.
